TVS-Owned Norton Motorcycles to Re-Enter Indian Market
In the year 2018, Norton Motorcycles entered the Indian market in association with Kinetic Motoroyale. The brand didn’t get any taste of success on Indian soil. Later on, the Indian two-wheeler giant, TVS Motor Company acquired the UK-Based motorcycle manufacturer Norton in August last year. Now, according to a recent media report, TVS Motors is planning to re-launch Norton Motorcycles in India. There is no clear timeline as to when Norton would debut in our market, but it is expected to happen in the near future.
In October last year, Norton Motorcycles had trademarked six names – Electra, Fastback, Navigator, Nomad, Ranger, and Combat. Norton trademarked four titles to be used for its products in India and they are Atlas, Commando, Fastback, and Manx.
Norton Motorcycles will reach India via the CBU (completely built-up) route. New Norton motorcycles are expected to launch in the Indian market in a year or two. The Commando is a well-known motorcycle, having already gone on sale here three years ago. The brand has two motorcycles namely the “Nomad” and “Ranger” under the Atlas range. These bikes will get power from a 650cc parallel-twin motor making 84 HP and 64 Nm of torque. Fastback and Manx are supposedly under development and they are expected to be, respectively, fully-faired and Isle of Man TT-inspired models.
It is true that under TVS ownership, the brand should have a better understanding of the market and improved reach too. While TVS has not given an official statement regarding the same, Norton Motorcycles India’s launch is not far. Information related to the launch date and number of dealerships is still awaited.
