Suzuki Jimny Five-Door SUV to be Released this Year
Japanese carmaker, Suzuki has started working on the long-wheelbase version of the Jimny off-roader. The 5-door SUV has recently been snapped in Europe, which reveals some of the design highlights, dimensions, and engine specifications. According to the media, the new SUV will be released in the global markets in the second half of 2021.
New Suzuki Jimny Five-Door: Design Highlights
The New Suzuki Jimny 5-door SUV will have a slightly different design compared to the existing 3-door version. It is expected that the company will give a mid-life facelift to the Jimny line-up, which will also inspire the design of the 5-door Suzuki Jimny. The new model will appear similar to the existing model; however, it will receive extended rear overhangs and a longer body. The SUV is likely to offer a forward-facing 3rd row of seats, which will make it a 5-seater SUV. The 5-door SUV is likely to receive revised bumpers, grille, wheels, and headlamps. However, the SUV will retain the original design of the Jimny. The interior side is likely to receive an updated multimedia system and new graphics in the instrument console.
New Suzuki Jimny Dimensions: Longer Wheelbase
According to the leaked document, the 5-door SUV will ride on 300 mm longer wheelbase, and the length will be raised by 300 mm. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door SUV will measure 3850 mm in length, 1645 mm in width and 1730 mm in height. The SUV will have a wheelbase of 2550 mm, while the ground clearance stands at 210 mm. It will have a kerb weight of 1190 kg, which is 100 kg heavier than the 3-door model.
New Suzuki Jimny Powertrain: 1.5-litre K15B Petrol Engine
The 5-door SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that makes 102bhp of max power and 138Nm of max torque. It is likely to feature the brand’s smart hybrid fuel-saving technology. For transmission duties, the engine will be paired to a five-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic. With bigger capacity engine, the new SUV won’t qualify for the lower excise duties on offer in the sub-4 meter category.
New Suzuki Jimny Comfort and Convenience Features
The all-new Maruti Suzuki Jimny will come with a host of comfort and convenience features like a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, satellite navigation, dual airbags, Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, lane departure warning, vehicle stability control, and brake enabled limited-slip differential system and reverse parking camera.
The manufacturer is yet to make an official announcement on the same; however, previous media reports suggest that the new Suzuki Jimny five-door SUV could be launched in the global markets in 2021. Likely to cost around Rs 10 lakh, the Jimny will be positioned against the likes of the Mahindra Thar and the upcoming Force Gurkha SUV.
