Renault Cars to Have Top Speed Limited to 180kph From 2022
Renault is set to restrict the top speed on all its models. Groupe Renault has announced that it will limit the top-speed on all Renault and Dacia brand SUVs and cars to 180 kmph. The first model to come with this safety feature will be the Renault Megane-E set to debut in 2022 in the European market. This measure will be introduced in 2022 for all its models across the globe. Along with this, to reduce road accidents Renault will introduce more safety features for all its models. The initiative was unveiled by Renault Group CEO, Luca de Meo, at the reveal of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) roadmap.
Safety Measures From Renault
Renault will also equip its cars with a few more features to reduce road accidents. There will be a ‘Safety Score’ readout in the infotainment which will analyze the driving data using sensors around the car and throw up tips to encourage safer driving. The brand’s cars will also include a ‘Safety Coach’, which will inform and warn drivers of potential risks on their route and process road and traffic data for real-time warnings.
Finally, there will be a ‘Safe Guardian’ mode which will slow the car down via a fail-safe mechanism that will trigger automatically when the system detects a dangerous situation like a dangerous turn, loss of steering wheel control for a long period or drowsiness. Additionally, in a bid to aid first responders, the carmaker said it would equip all its cars with a Rescue QR code that would provide access to vehicle data, including structural information, to help reduce passenger rescue time.
The carmaker is looking to expand into the EV market in the coming years. It is yet to be revealed how much of these initiatives trickle down to Renault’s Indian offerings. It is true that these innovations can have a useful impact on our market.
