New Skoda Kushaq Premium SUV Launch in June 2021
Czech automobile manufacturer recently revealed the Kushaq premium SUV, which made its global debut here in India. An integral part of the brand’s India 2.0 product strategy, the Kushaq will be one of the first launches. A close relative of the upcoming VW Taigun, the Skoda Kushaq is an SUV that many are looking forward to. The carmaker has confirmed that the bookings for this premium SUV will commence in India this June.
In a tweet Zac Hollis, Brand Director said that the Sales, Service and Marketing, Skoda Auto India, the Kushaq’s price announcement and specifications reveal will take place in June 2021, while the vehicle will reach showrooms a little later, by July. It is highly likely that the launch has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation in India, which has seen a number of states go into lockdown because of a surge in daily cases.
2021 Skoda Kushaq: Colour Options
The new SUV will be offered in five exterior colour options – Honey Orange, Tornado Red, Brilliant Silver, Carbon Steel and Candy White.
2021 Skoda Kushaq: Interior and Exterior Features
In terms of features, the Skoda Kushaq SUV will get a new 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with in-built apps, Android Auto functionality, connected vehicle tech, Apple CarPlay support, Wireless MirrorLink, a cooled glovebox, six speakers, a 50W subwoofer, auto-dimming IRVM, ventilated front seats, keyless entry, wireless charging, LED Daytime Running Lights, LED tail-lamps with connected LED strip, electrically foldable & adjustable ORVMs with integrated LED blinkers, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, electric sunroof, etc.
Dimensionally, the 2021 Skoda Kushaq measures 4221mm long, 1760mm wide and 1612mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2651mm. It offers a boot space of 385L, which can be extended by folding the 2nd row of seats. The vehicle has the longest wheelbase in its category, which should help the company to create more space inside the cabin.
2021 Skoda Kushaq: Powertrain
The new Skoda Kushaq MY2021 will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0L three-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 113bhp of max power and 175Nm of peak torque, the 1.5L engine puts out 147bhp of max power and 250Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices will include a seven-speed manual, a six-speed torque convertor automatic (1.0L only) and a seven-speed DSG automatic with 1.5L petrol.
The new Kushaq is the first car to be launched under VW Group’s India 2.0 strategy. It will also mark the debut of the heavily localized MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the mid-sized sedan and the VW Taigun. The Skoda Kushaq mid-sized sports utility vehicle will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks.
