New-Generation Skoda Fabia Breaks Cover Globally
Czech car manufacturer Skoda has finally Unveiled the fourth-gen Fabia in Prague on 4th May. The carmaker also shared some teaser pictures of the car for the international markets. Developed on the highly flexible MQB A0 platform, the 4th generation Skoda Fabia comes with more advanced comfort and safety features. The exterior styling of the new Fabia has been refreshed and it is bigger than the previous model.
2021 Skoda Fabia: Price and Features
The 4th-gen Skoda Fabia is priced from Euro 14,000 (equivalent to Rs. 12.43 lakh) in Europe and is 110 mm longer than the previous model to give a more grown-up appearance and improved space. The wheelbase of the new-generation Fabia has grown by 94 mm to 2564 mm which allows more space for passengers. The width of the new-gen model has also increased by 48 m to 1780 mm. Some of the unique features available of the 2021 Skoda Fabia are card and coin holders, elastic band pencil holder, removable cup holder between seats, umbrella in the driver’s door, USB-C sockets on the rear-view mirror.
At the front, 2021 Skoda Fabia gets black vertical slats and thick chrome borders giving a more upright shape to the new hexagonal grille while the sharper headlamp cluster has integrated LED DRLs. The carmaker has also used graphite grey and magical black shades around the door mirror caps, front grille, and roof in premium packages. The new-gen Fabia sits on a range of tyres – from 14 inches to 18 inches, depending on the variants.
2021 Skoda Fabia: Interior
The interior comes with an optional 9.2 inches touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, contrast orange/ grey stitching, red/ white decorative lighting, predictive cruise control, lane assist, traffic jam assist, and emergency assist, auto parking, and so on. The infotainment screen comes equipped with features like gesture control and a voice assistant. The new Fabia has also received a 2-spoke multifunction steering wheel. The air vents on the sides are now rounded, and the Climatronic temperature control has become dual-zone. It also offers optional comfort features like a heated windshield and a heated steering wheel.
2021 Skoda Fabia: Powertrain
The fourth-generation Skoda Fabia offers two three-cylinder gasoline engines for the front-wheel-drive. These 1.0 MPI engines can put out 65 and 80 hp of max power respectively. That is 5 HP more than the previous-gen engines. Diesel units have not existed in the Fabia since 2018. All engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standard. The top-spec variant is powered by a 1.5 TSI engine, mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission, is capable of producing 150 hp of power.
The 2021 Fabia is likely to launch in September 2021 for the international markets. However, it will not hit the Indian markets. The carmaker used to offer Fabia for the Indian market even a few years ago. But the Skoda is not keen on reintroducing it. Zac Hollis, Director at Skoda Auto India said, “There are currently no plans to launch new Fabia in India.”
