New Gen Mahindra Scorpio Launch Expected In Early 2022
Mahindra & Mahindra has postponed the launch of the next generation Scorpio SUV in India. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the home-grown automaker has delayed the launch of the new Mahindra Scorpio, and it is now expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2022. Earlier the company planned to be launch this SUV during the festive season of 2021. In comparison to the existing model, the upcoming Scorpio will come with a sportier design language and highlighted specs like a feature-loaded cabin and many more. As per the sources, the new Scorpio will be sold alongside the existing model.
Next-Gen Mahindra Scorpio Powertrain
Codenamed Z101, it is expected that the new Scorpio will borrow its powertrains from the second-gen Thar, but in a slightly higher tune. The 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine churns out 150PS and up to 320Nm while the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine makes 130PS and 300Nm in the Thar (which may be offered in a higher state of tune). The Scorpio is expected to be offered with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. We expect the top-spec variants to get a 4WD system as well.
2022 Mahindra Scorpio Features
The next-gen Scorpio’s multiple spy shots revealed several features covering design details. This SUV will likely be bigger in every dimension than its previous-gen model, with a slat pattern for its grille in typical Mahindra fashion. It will come sporting a new fascia, dual-barrel LED headlamps, C-shaped LED DRLs, a new bumper, fog lamps, new 10-spoke alloy wheels, and LED tail lamps.
Talking about the cabin, the Scorpio is expected to come with a new dashboard along with a digital instrument cluster, push-button start/stop, automatic AC, cruise control, larger touchscreen infotainment, probably with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, premium upholstery, and even a front-facing third row of seats. There are two USB ports along with ample cubby holes on the centre console. For safety, the company will offer the upcoming SUV with multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, Vehicle Stability Control, etc.
New Mahindra Scorpio Pricing
The new Scorpio will be launched after the XUV700. The next-gen Scorpio is likely to be priced between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will compete with compact SUVs such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.
