Mahindra will not enter mini SUV segments – planning a new EV brand
According to new media reports, Mahindra & Mahindra will follow its successful core models, which are SUVs, and decided not to make sedans, hatchbacks and small SUVs for the Indian market. The automaker is planning to introduce an all-new brand for premium electric SUVs under its Italian subsidiary Pininfarina.
Anish Shah, who is the MD and CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra has stated that the company would not be making hatchbacks, sedans and small SUVs as it intends to stick by its traditional route of developing and selling SUVs. He further stated that the company is also planning to add an all-new brand of premium electric SUVs under its Italian subsidiary Pininfarina. The Pura Vision SUV is said to create a new segment called sustainable luxury vehicle (S-LUV) and is due in 2022. The new range of EVs could cost around Rs. 40 lakh.
Mahindra’s new MD and CEO Anish Shah – Action Plan
Mr Anish Shah took over the top job at Mahindra on April 2, 2021. He replaces Mr Pawan Goenka, who has retired after more than 27 years with the Mahindra Group. Mahindra believes that electrics would be the biggest focus area, which would see an initial investment of over Rs 3,000 crore. Mahindra will focus on selling “true blue, larger SUVs”, which are core to its heritage and legacy. Anish Shah further said that Mahindra’s SUV range will revolve around Bolero, XUV300, Scorpio, Thar and the XUV500. The carmaker will be launching the second generation XUV500 and the new Scorpio later this year. The former is expected to go on sale around Q3 2021.
Pininfarina is all set to launch a super-luxury electric car – the Batista
The Italian brand, Pininfarina is all set to launch a super-luxury electric car the Batista. Presently, Pininfarina is introducing the Battista, an electric supercar limited to only 125 production units. Shah claims the technology used in this super-luxury car will help the brand’s EV business.
He emphasised the good reception for the second generation Mahindra Thar, which went on sale in October 2020 and is in high demand with more than 50,000 bookings.
