About Mahindra 5-Door Thar
The new five-door SUV will be based on the existing three-door Thar which was launched in India in October 2020. While sharing the same exterior styling, the new five-door Thar will have more space inside the cabin to accommodate an additional row. While the wheelbase may remain constant, front/ rear overhangs are likely to be extended to carve out more space, but it is too early to comment on these details as of now.
The new-generation model which has received a four-star safety rating from the Global NCAP also comes with a host of modern creature comforts that has opened it to a wide range of customers. The new five-door SUV is likely to be equipped with a longer list of features in comparison to the existing three-door Thar and will thus also demand a higher premium. The new SUV feature list includes LED Daytime Running Lights, alloy wheels, forward-facing rear seats, automatic climate control, touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and more.
Mahindra 5-Door Thar: Engine and Transmission
Mechanically, the new five-door SUV is likely to remain similar to the existing three-door thar. Expect it to employ the same 2.0L turbocharged petrol and 2.2L turbo-diesel engines along with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission (AT).
Currently, the existing 3-door Thar retails from Rs 12,12,000 to Rs 14,17,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The new 5-door SUV will undoubtedly sell at a premium.
