Kia Sonet 7-Seater SUV Makes Global Debut – Additional Features
Seven-seater Kia Sonet SUV will be first launched in Indonesian Market – India launch has not been confirmed yet!
As of now, Indonesia has the 5-seater kia sonet variant, which is largely the same as that of India-spec Kia Sonet. There are some differences though, for example, the one sold in Indonesia is 125mm longer than the India-spec Sonet at 4120mm while the latter measures 3995mm in length. Other dimensions aspects including width, height, and wheelbase remain identical at 1790mm, 1642mm and 2500mm respectively. Both versions of the SUV are built in India at Kia’s production facility in Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh).
Kia Sonet 7 Seater – Features
Apart from the addition of a new row, 7-seater Kia Sonet will be essentially the same as the 5-seater Sonet variant. It does not get any visual updates to differentiate it from the 5-seater variant. Kia could offer a 50:50 split function for the third-row seats, which will allow users to create space for the luggage. On the interior side, 7-seater Kia Sonet gets features such as digital instrument console, Bose sound system, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, UVO connected car tech, Automatic AC, ventilated front seats, rear AC vents, LED ambient lighting, and wireless charging. It also gets an additional roof-mounted blower.
In terms of safety, the 7-seater Sonet is likely to get the existing set of features such as multiple airbags, an Anti-lock braking system with Electronic brakeforce distribution, rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
Sonet 7-Seater Engine and Transmission
In the Indonesian market, 7-seater Kia Sonet will utilize the same engine as that of the existing 5-seater version. The 1.5 litre DOHC, Smartstream, dual CVVT unit produces max power of 115 ps at 6,300 rpm and peak torque of 144 Nm at 4,500 rpm. It is mated to either a six-speed manual or IVT transmission.
Although 7-seater Sonet SUV will be manufactured in India, it is not certain if it will be launched here. However, looking at the increased demand for 7-seater cars and SUVs, the possibility cannot be denied. In the initial phase, Kia is likely to focus on Southeast Asian markets for 7-seater Sonet.
For the Indian market, Kia is working on a new MPV (multi-purpose vehicles). It has been spied on-road tests and is expected to be launched in January 2022.
