Husqvarna E-Pilen Electric Motorcycle Concept Revealed
The Husqvarna Motorcycles has become the latest two-wheeler manufacturer to join the electric vehicle bandwagon with a new electric bike concept called E-Pilen. In September 2020, information about the upcoming Husqvarna e-Pilen bike was revealed with some presentation documents. At that time, Pierer Mobility AG (PMAG), the parent company of KTM, and Husqvarna was speaking to its investors about the future, and it was revealed that the E-Pilen would be introduced as a 2022 model. The E-Pilen e-bike concept has now been teased by the Husqvarna Motorcycles and there are quite a few differences to what was originally mentioned in the Pierer Mobility documents.
Husqvarna E-Pilen Electric Motor
The original Pierer Mobility presentation documents suggested that the motorcycle would be available in a choice of two electric motor options – 4 Kilowatt (5.4hp) and 10 Kilowatt (13.5hp). However, the E-Pilen e-bike concept comes with an 8 Kilowatt (10.8hp) motor, although it’s quite likely that there will be other versions available as well.
The E-Pilen concept’s electric motor puts out 10.9 PS of max power and has a claimed range of 100 km or 62 miles on a single full charge. The two-wheeler manufacturer also revealed that the E-Pilen Concept comes equipped with a modular and swappable battery system that allows the power pack to be exchanged, hence, extending the appeal and utility of e-bikes. The Husqvarna Motorcycles didn’t go into details, but it should be noted that the bike is still in its concept form.
Husqvarna E-Pilen Design
The current Husqvarna bikes street range is already known for being progressive, smart, dynamic, and purely design-oriented. These values will continue to be hallmarks of the E-mobility line. The Husqvarna E-Pilen e-bike Concept is a clear statement of that intent.
The design seen on this Husqvarna E-Pilen electric bike concept is identical to the current Husqvarna Vitpilen and Svartpilen with a unique, minimal take. However, the shape of the bike’s body itself is quite distinct, with plenty of air visible through the chassis area. Things like the wheels, single front disc, and 43 mm USD front fork all look identical to those on the Vitpilen and Svartpilen, however, there are some red adjusters visible on the top of the fork, identical to those on the export-spec KTM 390 Adventure. The Husqvarna E-Pilen electric motorcycle gets a trademark round LED headlamp, however, this one sticks out a bit further to the front. The rear side is typically minimal and the number plate and indicators on the production model are likely to be swingarm-mounted, as they are on the Vitpilen and Svartpilen.
Husqvarna E-Pilen India launch
As per the Pierer Mobility document, the production-spec E-Pilen is to be manufactured at Bajaj’s plant in Chakan, Pune and it will go on sale in 2022. That timeline could be moved here and there based on covid-19 pandemic-related constraints, but it’s certain that there’s a range of Electric Vehicles coming from KTM and Husqvarna. We expect that Husqvarna’s E-Pilen will be retailed out of the existing dealer network if and when the manufacturer decides to start selling it here. That will depend on how much this two-wheeler is going to cost, because going by the latest Bajaj Chetak electric-scooter price hike, it’s likely that the E-Pilen will be more expensive than the existing Husqvarna models.
