Fiat Progetto 363 Mid-Size SUV Makes Global Debut in Brazil

Fiat automobile manufacturer has unveiled new SUV what it calls as Progetto 363 or Project 363. The actual name of the car will be selected online through a public poll. The name with the most votes will be christened as the name of this new Car. It is said that Project 363 shares a part of its architecture with the Argo car. However, the carmaker says that an all-new MLA platform underpins the Progetto. This is one handsome-looking vehicle and will have been perfect for Indian markets in the Rs 10-15 lakh price range. The new Fiat SUV is expected to be a Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos rival. The headlamps are LED units and so are the tail lamps. Production of the Project 363 will take place in Betim, Brazil plant which will also cater to other South American markets. This new platform that we were talking about earlier, also supports 4-wheel drive as well as hybridisation.

The new SUV carries the FIAT’s latest styling theme that is seen on newer models like the Argo and Strada cars. The SUV features an upright nose with wide wraparound headlights and a horizontally slatted and blacked-out grille that has the big Fiat logo in the centre. The aggressive bumper features two triangular-shaped fog lamp housings at each end. There is a prominent chin separated from the bumper with thick black cladding that runs across the width. It also gets a rugged-looking skid plate which gives it a strong presence. The SUV has an upward swooping window line and a strong character line that runs across the width. The top-spec variants will have dual-tone paint scheme options as well.

At the back, it gets stylish LED taillights, a sculpted tailgate, a roof-integrated spoiler with brake lights, and a prominent bumper with a silver skid plate and a dual exhaust setup.

New Fiat SUV: Engine and Powertrain details

The new Fiat SUV (Progetto 363 or Project 363) will come with a fresh direct-injection 1.0L 128hp turbo petrol engine. It will be mated to an Aisin-sourced CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) gearbox. Additionally, there will be a 1.3L turbo petrol engine as well, the same motor that powers the South American-spec Jeep Compass and will also see duty in the upcoming 3-row Jeep SUV in some markets. The base variants will also be available with 1.3L 109hp naturally aspirated petrol engine.

New Fiat SUV: Will it come to India?

The new Fiat SUV won’t be introduced in the Indian market. Stellantis has decided to focus on increasing Jeep sales in our market. The company will introduce the new three-row Commander (Based On Compass) and a new jeep sub-four meter SUV in India. Adding to it, Citroen will launch a new sub-four meter SUV, codenamed C21 in India in 2021.
