Ashok Leyland’s Vijayawada plant starts production for Commercial Buses
Hinduja Group flagship Ashok Leyland started commercial production of buses at its greenfield plant in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Located around 40 km away from Vijayawada, spread over a 75-acre site at Mallavalli village, the new manufacturing plant will be equipped with the latest technologies to deliver the high-quality standards of the Ashok Leyland brand.
Commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland’s new manufacturing plant has a capacity to produce 4800 buses annually. This first plant set up in Andhra Pradesh has a state-of-the-art learning centre and an advanced service training centre. The facility also has a state-of-the-art learning centre and an advanced service training centre. It has a complete green facility, rooftop photovoltaic panels, battery-operated autos for in-plant motion, LED lighting, positive water balance and zero discharge.
The company stated in a regulatory filing that, “we wish to inform you that the commercial production of the buses at the plant set up at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh has commenced on February 19, 2021.”
Built with an investment of about Rs 140 crore, the ground-breaking ceremony for the new bus plant was held in March 2018 in the presence of the then Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu. The corporate claims that the plant is capable of producing the entire range of buses from the brand. The new plant has the potential to provide a job to over 5,000 employees.
