2022 Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 SUV Makes Global Debut
Toyota Motor Corporation has finally revealed the off-road icon’s New-gen of its Land Cruiser SUV, called the LC300. The Land Cruiser 200 series introduced in the year 2007 gets replaced for a lighter, more powerful version with more features. The new-gen Land Cruiser was revealed at a digital event held in UAE and will be initially available only in the Russian and Middle Eastern markets. The all-new LC300 will later be available in select markets across the world but there is no word if it will make it to the American and Indian markets anytime soon.
2022 Toyota Land Cruiser LC300: Design
The front fascia of the SUV will certainly divide opinions. There’s a massive main grille which is surrounded by a secondary grille, flanked by swanky LED headlamps with integrated thick L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights. From the side, you will note that not much has changed between the LC300 and LC200 – the Land Cruiser’s iconic boxy profile remains untouched. The new SUV does get new alloy wheels and door-mounted wing mirrors now that makes it seem a bit more modern.
The rear of the all-new SUV comes with redesigned LED tail lamps, a stubby roof spoiler, and a revised bumper. Toyota has also updated the design of the tailgate, which now appears more upright but better sculpted than before.
GR Sport variant
Even more interesting is the fact that there will be a specially-tuned GR Sport variant of the 2022 Land Cruiser. The GR Sport is meant for customers who plan on taking the Car off-road more often. Therefore, this variant will come with upgraded and beefier suspension, smaller wheels with chunkier tires, and more underbody protection as well.
Depending on the variant and market, the all-new Land Cruiser’s interior can be had in two colours. There’s a sporty all-black shaded theme and a dual-tone beige/ black shaded theme, with the latter looking more premium overall. The car manufacturer has redesigned the whole interior of the SUV, so it now feels a touch more modern and pleasant.
Interestingly, while the LC300 gets a large and tablet-style 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with smartphone connectivity and detailed graphics, it misses out on a fully digital driver’s display. Some of the all-new Land Cruiser’s other toys will include push-button start, quad-zone automatic climate control, ventilated & power-operated front seats, wireless charging, a JBL surround-sound audio system, a power sunroof, surround-view cameras, and a heads-up display, among others.
To assist the driver while off-roading, the carmaker has fitted the Land Cruiser with a Multi-Terrain Select system that features Deep Snow and Auto drive modes, a Multi-Terrain Monitor system that provides the driver a clearer view of the vehicle’s surroundings using an underbody camera and a revised Crawl Control system, to help maintain a steady speed as needed.
The Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer has also equipped the LC300 with slightly better and retuned suspension components to better its off-roading capabilities. And while updations were made to the aesthetics, vital parameters such as the Land Cruiser’s stellar approach, break-over, and departure angles have been carried over from the LC200 series.
Engine and Transmission
The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser comes with a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder petrol engine that generates nearly 409hp and 650Nm of peak torque, or a 3.3-liter diesel engine that makes out about 305hp and 700Nm of peak torque. Both engines in the new LC300 come with a ten-speed automatic transmission (AT) as standard.
The all-new Toyota Land Cruiser (LC300) should make it to our country, though there are no timelines announced as yet. Irrespective, it is absolutely great to see old-school SUVs like the Land Cruiser still being produced this year
