It combines the flexibility of an open truck bed and the comfort of a Sports utility vehicle so you can easily load it up with gear and get to your next adventure. There’s seating for five persons, the capability of HTRAC All Wheel Drive, and advanced technology – all in one never-before-seen package.
2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pick-up makes global debut
It has been 6 years since Hyundai first showed us its concept pickup truck, the small and sporty Santa Cruz at Detroit Auto Show. After teasing its highly anticipated Santa Cruz small pick-up truck several times in the past, Hyundai Motor Company on 15th April 2021 globally revealed the Sport-Adventure Vehicle.
Unlike the concept showed at 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the production model comes out as a 4-door crew cab. The front end appears to be based on the same design lines as the new Tucson. Santa Cruz shares its front end with the new Tucson but with a slightly more rugged treatment for the bumper also resulting in a restyled headlamp cluster. Like the Tucson, the LED daytime running lights and the grille merge together in an unconventional yet attractive way, to our eyes at least, making for a design that definitely stands out. In terms of dimensions, the Santa Cruz pick up spans 4970 mm in length, 1905 mm in width and a wheelbase of 3005 mm.
The new Santa Cruz has the stylish dual-cowl dashboard design, which can be paired with a 10-inch digital instrument display. The standard infotainment screen is 8 inches in size, but a 10-inch version is available as an option. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard as are safety features such as automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist. Available as options are blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with lane centering and a surround view camera.
Two Powertrain Options
There are two poweretrain options that have been announced for 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. There is an efficient direct-injection 2.5-litre engine coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It puts ot 190 bhp of max power and 180 Lb.-Ft. of max torque. There is also a turbocharged 2.5-litre inline-four engine that produces 275 bhp of max power and 310 Lb.-Ft. of max torque. This comes with an 8-speed dual clutch transmission. Moreover, it gets paddle shifter for a truly engaging ride. There are also various drive modes to choose from and both the powertrain options are available with Hyundai’s all-wheel-drive system.
The Santa Cruz begins production at the Alabama assembly plant in June and will go on sale in the US this summer. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but should be available close to the on-sale date. As far as its Indian debut goes, there is no official announcement if the model will be made available in Indian Markets anytime soon. Considering that it primarily targets the North American customers, it will lock horns with pick-ups in the similar range such as Honda Ridgeline and the upcoming Ford Maverick.
