2021 Skoda Octavia Launched in India: Key Highlights
The fourth-generation 2021 Skoda Octavia Sedan has finally been launched in India. The new Sedan comes in two trims namely Style and Laurin & Klement (L&K) that have been priced at Rs 25,99,000 and Rs 28,99,000 (ex-showroom) respectively. A day before the official India launch, the Czech automobile manufacturer decided to give a little surprise to everyone and revealed a majority of bits about the vehicle through a virtual premiere. That said, almost everything about the new latest-generation Octavia sedan was already known except for one important thing i.e. pricing that has been revealed just now. The India launch of the 2021 Skoda Octavia was delayed by over a month due to the ongoing second-wave Covid-19 pandemic. Thankfully, with the situation getting back to normal, the new sedan has been finally launched in our country and this puts an end to the wait of a lot of people who have been planning to buy it.
2021 Skoda Octavia: Powertrain
The fourth-generation Skoda Octavia is powered by a 2.0L TSI petrol engine. The engine makes out 187hp of max power and 320Nm of peak torque. The 2.0L TSI petrol engine has been mated to an automatic seven-speed DSG gearbox. The carmaker has also not revealed any information about a manual variant of the sedan. The company claimed an ARAI certified mileage of 15.81 kmpl.
The 2021 Skoda Octavia gets a new visual look as the dimensions have been increased. The new sedan is 4689 mm long, 1469 mm tall, 1829 mm wide, and comes with a wheelbase of 2680 mm.
Design and Colour Options
The front fascia uses a new grille with a chrome frame. Following on from the grill are razor-sharp, narrower, new headlights featuring Bi-LED technology, and DRLs (standard), which are a visual delight. The fourth-generation Octavia is available in 5 colour options: Candy White, Lava Blue, Magic Black, Brilliant Silver, and Maple Brown, with the last two exclusively reserved for the L&K (Laurin & Klement) trim.
On the inside, there is an all-new layout in the cabin, with the dashboard featuring a layered design with the free-standing 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 10.25-inch full-digital instrument cluster (Virtual cockpit) taking centre stage.
Another noteworthy interior design change is the move to Skoda’s new two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, with knurled scroll wheels, also makes an appearance. If ordered as a multifunction variant, the control buttons have been completely rearranged and, together with new chrome knurled scroll wheels, make operation even easier. A total of fourteen different functions can be carried out using the buttons and wheels, including – for the first time – activating the optional heating for the steering wheel and operating Travel Assist.
To increase appeal to Indian buyers, the new Octavia features a beige-on-black colour scheme instead of an all-black scheme, to help with the sense of space inside the cabin. The seats are also finished in suede and leather upholstery to add to the cabin’s premium appeal.
Airbags, ABS, EBD, and Many More Safety Features
In terms of safety, the 2021 Skoda Octavia L&K trim gets features such as 8 safety airbags, iBuzz Fatigue Alert and Adaptive Front-lighting System. In addition, safety support functions include Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Electronic Stability Control, tyre pressure monitoring system, acoustic etc among others.
Zac Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said, “When it was introduced 20 years ago, the Octavia changed the dynamics of the executive sedan segment – one that continues to offer significant growth potential, catering to a burgeoning class of discerning buyers with a penchant for luxury, as well as the right value proposition. Having retained its characteristics of design, safety, technology, performance, space, and comfort, the all-new Octavia is a compelling combination and will continue to drive Skoda Auto’s success in the Indian market.”
