2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic Launched In India
German automaker, Mercedes Benz has launched its ultra-luxury car in the form of Maybach GLS 600 in the Indian market at a heart-aching price of Rs 2.43 crore (ex-showroom, India) and it is one of fifteen launches that German marque has planned for the country in 2021. The GLS 600 4Matic SUV sits on top of the line of the Mercedes global portfolio and is a far richer sibling of the standard GLS which is offered a price of Rs 1.04 crore (ex-showroom, India). The carmaker has not revealed the exact number of units allocated for the Indian market but has announced that all 50 plus units for 2021 have already been pre-booked.
As of exterior, 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic possesses a lot more chrome than the standard GLS. Upfront, the SUV carries a Maybach-specific multi-slatted chrome grille flanked by sleek LED headlights. The SUV can be optioned with 22 or 23-inch Maybach multi-spoke chrome wheels while the Maybach emblem is placed on the D-pillar.
As of dimensions, the new SUV is taller by 15mm and wider by 31mm than the standard model. The SUV can be availed in as many as 11 new shades which also includes dual-tone colour schemes.
Other exterior features include split-LED taillamps connected by a chrome strip on tailgate, chrome inserts on the B-pillar, brand’s logo on the D-pillar, large chrome air curtains on bumpers as well as a thick chrome skid plate on front and rear end.
Interior Design and Features
Moving to the Interior, the SUV has been offered as 5-seater as standard but customers can also opt for an ultra-luxurious 4-seat configuration with two individual lounge seats at the rear. The rear seats also have individual heating, ventilation and massage functions just like the front seats. In terms of features, it receives dual 12.3-inch screens and a fully digital instrument cluster each with the latest MBUX interface.
Other creature comforts on offer include 4-zone climate control, electrionic panoramic sliding/ tilting sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, handwriting recognition and gesture control, MBUX rear tablet in centre console, a thirteen-speaker Burmester sound system, 360-degree camera, a refrigerator with champagne glasses and much more. Safety features includes an adaptive air suspension, Electronic Traction System 4ETS, tyre pressure monitoring system and a host of driver assistance technologies.
Powertrain and Performance
2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic is powered by a magnanimous 4.0L V8 engine that develops a massive 550 bhp and 730 Nm of max torque. This motor is equipped with a 48-volt system EQ Boost mild-hybrid system that offers a bump of 21 bhp and instantaneous torque of up to 250 Nm.
The engine is mated with a nine-speed automatic gearbox while power is sent to all four wheels via a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. Despite weighing over 3 tons (3250kg to be precise), the Car coils sprint zero to 100 km/h in just 4.9 sec. Top speed of the SUV has been electronically capped at 250 km/h.
