2021 Kia Sonet Launched In India – New Variants and Features

The Kia Sonet SUV has just received an update for the 2021 model that has brought with it not only the new Kia badge but also new trims and an updated features list. The new Kia Sonet HTX trim has been made available with automatic options as well – HTX 7DCT 1.0L petrol and HTX 6AT 1.5L diesel. Prices for the 2021 Kia Sonet model start from Rs 6,79,000 and go up to Rs 13,25,000.

Commenting on the launch of 2021 Kia Sonet, Kookhyun Shim, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kia India said: “The refreshed editions of Seltos and Sonet mark the first steps towards our transformation in India and reiterate our new brand purpose of inspiring consumers through products, services and their experiences with the brand. The evolving needs of the customers are at the heart of our product strategy.”

2021 Kia Sonet New Variants and Features

2021 Kia Sonet now gets two new Tech variants. These are the higher-spec HTX variant with either the 1.0L turbo and 7DCT or a diesel auto with the higher output VGT. The newly added paddle-shifter from the Kia Seltos also make their way here. These are available on these new variants as well as on the GTX+ 7DCT and HTX AT. The new variants also get segment-first rear door sunshade curtains with the top HTX+ and GTX+ versions also getting this. These top versions now also get a voice command for the sunroof open and close functions.

Safety features like Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Airbags, Brake Assist and Hill Assist Control are now brought to the lower variants in the Sonet. In addition, multiple drive modes and traction modes are now available in the high-spec variants of the five-seater SUV.

Aside from the safety updates, the HTX trim will also now come with the dual-tone 16-inch alloys seen on the HTX Plus and GTXPlus trims. Additionally, the automatic variants will also get steering-mounted paddles – the GTX+ automatics will also get paddle shifters.

The lower variants of the new SUV come with features like an electric sunroof, smart key with push-button start, remote engine start, chromed out door handles and crystal cut alloys with silver wheel caps this time around.

Kia has launched the 2021 Sonet with prices starting at Rs 6,79,000 for the HTE 5MT variant and going all the way up to Rs 13,25,000 for the range-topping GTX+ 6AT variant.

There are two petrol engines and one diesel engine on offer with the 2021 Kia Sonet, unchanged from before. One of the petrols is the Kappa T-GDI 1.0L turbo. This 3-cylinder engine generates 120PS and 172Nm and can be paired with two gearboxes, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and the iMT clutchless manual. The other petrol engine, for lower-spec variants, is the 1.2L petrol with 83PS and 116Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual. The single diesel option is the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine which makes 100PS and 240Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual. The diesel motor can also be paired with a torque converter automatic. In this iteration, the diesel Kia Sonet makes 115PS and 250 Nm.
